Wash the whole moong thoroughly and soak it overnight.
Transfer the soaked moong to a plate and pick out any moong that has not swollen.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
Once the cumin seeds crackle, add all the dry spices and mix well.
Add the soaked moong and ¼ cup water.
Close the pressure cooker. After the first whistle, lower the flame and pressure cook for exactly 2 minutes.
Turn off the flame and allow the pressure to release completely.
Open the cooker and add lemon juice, a small amount of salt, black pepper powder, and sugar. Mix well.
Garnish with chopped onion, tomato, and green chilli. Serve hot.
