COOKIE POLICY

Effective: 11 May 2026 · Replaces all previous versions, including the Cookie Policy dated 25 April 2024.

ABOUT THIS POLICY

This Cookie Policy explains how Chefadora uses cookies and similar technologies on our website, what each category does, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your personal information more broadly.

You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in our website footer, or by reopening the cookie banner from there.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work, work better, or work more efficiently, and to provide information to the website owner.

In this policy, we use the term "cookies" to refer to cookies and similar technologies that we use for the same purposes — such as web beacons, pixels, local storage, and tags.

Cookies set by Chefadora directly are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by third parties (such as our analytics or advertising providers) while you're on Chefadora are called "third-party cookies." This policy covers both.

2. The cookies we use

We group cookies into five categories based on what they do. The live list of specific cookies in each category is shown in our cookie preferences panel — click the "Cookie preferences" link in our footer to view it.

CategoryWhat it doesExamples
EssentialRequired for Chefadora to work — they keep you signed in, protect against attacks, and remember the choices you make on the cookie banner. These cannot be turned off.Sign-in tokens, cross-site request forgery protection, your saved cookie choices and region
FunctionalRemember your preferences so Chefadora works the way you like — things like your language, search filters, and result pagination.Language preference, recipe filter preferences, search result caching
AnalyticsHelp us understand how Chefadora is used so we can improve it. Data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.PostHog (EU-hosted), Google Analytics
AdvertisingHelp show ads that support our creators. Without these, you'll still see ads, but they'll be generic instead of tailored to your interests.Google AdSense, Google DoubleClick
PersonalizationTailor recipe suggestions based on what you've cooked, saved, and viewed.Chefadora's own recommendation cookie

The cookie preferences panel shows the specific cookies in each category, who sets them, what they do, and how long they last. We update this list automatically as our use of cookies changes.

3. How we ask for your consent

How we ask for consent depends on where you are:

3.1 European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and India

If you are in the EEA, UK, or India, we treat all non-essential cookies (Functional, Analytics, Advertising, and Personalization) as off by default. We show a cookie banner on your first visit with three equally prominent choices: Reject all, Customize, and Accept all.

Until you make a choice, only essential cookies are set. We never set non-essential cookies based on assumed consent or continued browsing.

3.2 United States and other regions

If you are in the United States, Australia, or other regions where law allows, we use cookies in all categories by default. You can opt out at any time — see clause 4.

In the United States, residents of California and several other states have specific rights described in our Privacy Policy (clause 12.3 and 12.4). The cookie preferences panel is how you exercise these rights for cookies.

4. How to manage your cookie preferences

You can change your cookie preferences at any time through the following options:

Click the "Cookie preferences" link in our website footer. This reopens the cookie preferences panel where you can:

  1. Turn each non-essential category on or off
  2. View the specific cookies in each category, including duration and provider
  3. Accept all, reject all, or save a custom set of preferences

When you turn a category off, we stop setting cookies in that category, and we delete the relevant cookies from your device where technically possible.

4.2 Your browser settings

Most web browsers let you block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Steps vary by browser; you can find instructions on the help pages for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, or whichever browser you use.

Blocking essential cookies through your browser may prevent parts of Chefadora from working, including signing in, staying signed in, and saving recipes.

5. Global Privacy Control

Chefadora honours the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal worldwide. GPC is a setting some browsers offer that tells websites you don't want them to share or sell your personal information for advertising.

If your browser sends a GPC signal when you visit Chefadora:

  1. We treat it as a request to opt out of advertising and personalization cookies
  2. We turn off these categories automatically and prevent them from being toggled on
  3. Our cookie banner shows a confirmation that GPC has been detected and applied
  4. If you are a California resident, this also fulfils your right to opt out of "sale" and "sharing" under the California Consumer Privacy Act

6. Third-party services that set cookies

Some cookies on Chefadora are set by third-party service providers we use to operate or improve the platform. These providers receive limited information about your visit, used only for the purposes described in our Privacy Policy and subject to data processing agreements with us.

The third-party services that set cookies on Chefadora are:

  1. PostHog (EU-hosted)— product analytics. Provider's privacy policy: posthog.com/privacy
  2. Google Analytics— product analytics. Provider's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
  3. Google AdSense— advertising. Provider's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
  4. Google DoubleClick— advertising measurement. Provider's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
  5. Algolia— search functionality. Provider's privacy policy: algolia.com/policies/privacy

Cookies set by these third parties are governed by their respective privacy policies in addition to ours. The full list of third-party service providers Chefadora uses (including those that don't set cookies) is in our Privacy Policy, clause 5.1.

7. The Chefadora mobile app

Our mobile apps (iOS and Android) don't use cookies in the same way websites do. Instead, they may use device-level identifiers, local storage, and software development kits (SDKs) from the same third parties to deliver similar functionality — such as remembering your sign-in, providing analytics, and showing relevant ads.

You can control these technologies through your device settings:

7.1 iOS

  1. App Tracking Transparency: when you first open the Chefadora app, iOS will ask whether you allow apps to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
  2. Apple Advertising:Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising allows you to turn off personalised ads from Apple
  3. Limit Ad Tracking:Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Allow Apps to Request to Track (turn off)

7.2 Android

  1. Ads ID:Settings → Google → Ads allows you to delete your advertising ID and opt out of personalised ads
  2. App permissions:Settings → Apps → Chefadora → Permissions allows you to control what information the app can access

7.3 In the Chefadora app

Account Settings → Privacy provides additional in-app controls, including the ability to clear AI chat history, update your Personalisation Preferences, and download or delete your data.

How we use the information collected through these technologies is described in our Privacy Policy, which applies to both our website and our mobile apps.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, when we add or remove a service provider, change how a category of cookies is used, or in response to changes in law.

When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this policy. Where the changes are material — for example, where we begin using a new category of cookie or a new third-party service that processes a new category of personal information — we will notify you through the cookie banner and ask for your consent again where required by law.
