How to make Kunji Pathal / Kakka Orotti / Beef Pidi

Prepare Beef Curry

  1. Step 1

    Add cleaned beef pieces, chilli powder, meat masala powder, and salt to a pressure cooker.

  2. Step 2

    Add 2 cups of water and cook until the beef is well done.

  3. Step 3

    Let the pressure release completely.

  4. Step 4

    Grind grated coconut and fennel seeds into a fine paste using a mixer jar.

  5. Step 5

    Add the coconut paste to the cooked beef and boil for 5 minutes. Turn off the flame and set aside.

Prepare Pathal

  1. Step 1

    Grind grated coconut, cumin seeds, and shallots into a fine paste using a mixer jar.

    Boil 2 cups of water and add the coconut paste mix and salt.

  3. Step 3

    When the mixture starts boiling vigorously, add the rice flour and mix well. Turn off the flame.

    Knead the mixture into a non-sticky dough.

    Make small dumplings out of the dough and gently press them in the center with your index finger.

  6. Step 6

    Steam the dumplings for 10 minutes and set aside.

Tempering and Final Assembly

  1. Step 1

    Heat a pan and add ghee and coconut oil.

    Add sliced shallots and fry until golden brown. Then add curry leaves.

    Add the cooked beef with gravy to the pan and mix well.

    When the mixture starts bubbling, add the cooked dumplings to the beef curry.
