Tips & Tricks

  1. If you don’t have pulled pork, a store-bought rotisserie chicken works perfectly as a substitute.

  2. Press the crust thinly to avoid it being overwhelming.

  3. Prepare the tart the night before, refrigerate, and bake when ready for a quick dinner.

  4. Use mini tart pans for individual servings.

  5. Don’t drown the pork in salsa; use just enough to keep it moist.

FAQS

  1. Can I use a different protein for the filling?

Yes, you can use shredded chicken, ground beef, or even go meat-free with sautéed zucchini or eggplant.

  2. What is masa harina?

Masa harina is a flour made from dried corn that’s used in Mexican cooking for tortillas, tamales, and more. It has a finer texture and distinct flavor compared to cornmeal.

  3. Can I make this tart ahead of time?

Yes, you can assemble the tart the night before, refrigerate it, and bake it when ready to serve.

  4. What can I use instead of a tart pan?

  5. How can I make this dish vegetarian?

You can replace the meat with sautéed diced zucchini, eggplant, or other vegetables of your choice.
