How to make Jalapeno Popper Beer Can Burger

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 400°F.

  2. Step 2

Combine ground chuck and marinade, and form into 4 burgers, reserving enough beef to form a cap for each burger.

  3. Step 3

Using the bottom of the beer can, press it into the middle of each patty to form a well, wrapping the meat mixture around the bottom of the can.

Prepare the Filling

  1. Step 1

Combine chopped jalapenos, cream cheese, sharp white cheddar, and Black Forest ham.

  2. Step 2

Add an equal amount of the filling to each burger well.

Seal and Cook the Burgers

  1. Step 1

Top each burger with a smaller patty and pinch the edges to seal.

  2. Step 2

Add the burgers to a large oven-safe pan over medium-high heat, splash each with Worcestershire sauce, and sear on each side for 1-2 minutes to brown.

  3. Step 3

Transfer the pan to the hot oven, cover, and broil for 7-10 minutes on each side.

  4. Step 4

Alternatively, grill or smoke the burgers for an amazing flavor.

Prepare the Sauce

  1. Step 1

Combine buttermilk, sour cream, cilantro, lime juice, and sea salt in a jar and shake well.

Serve

  1. Step 1

Serve the burgers with or without the sauce on toasted buns.

Tips & Tricks

  1. If pan-frying, cover the pan after flipping the burgers to ensure the center gets heated and the cheese melts properly.

  2. Consider wrapping the burgers in bacon for added flavor and texture.

  3. Pair the burgers with fresh toppings like arugula, red onions, and tomatoes, but avoid overloading them to preserve the burger's flavor.

  4. Smoking the burgers adds a unique and delicious flavor—highly recommended!

FAQS

  1. Can I use a different type of cheese?

Yes, you can substitute sharp white cheddar with another cheese like Monterey Jack or Pepper Jack for a different flavor profile.

  2. What is the purpose of the beer can?

The beer can is used to create a well in the burger patty, which is then filled with the stuffing ingredients.

  3. Can I make these burgers without an oven?

Yes, you can grill or smoke the burgers instead of using an oven for equally delicious results.

  4. Is the buttermilk cilantro lime sauce necessary?

No, the sauce is optional, but it adds a refreshing and tangy flavor that complements the burger well.

  5. Can I prepare the filling ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the filling in advance and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
