How to make Garlic Herb Tuna Steak Marinade

  1. Combine all of the marinade ingredients and whisk vigorously.

  2. Place the tuna steaks in a gallon Ziploc bag, pour in the marinade, toss to coat the tuna steaks, press out the excess air, and seal. Alternatively, you can put the tuna steaks in a bowl, add the marinade, toss, cover, and let marinate in the bowl.

  3. Transfer the tuna steak marinade to the fridge and chill for 30 minutes.

  4. Take the tuna steak out of the fridge and put it on the grill. Cook for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the tuna is easily flaked with a fork and the center of the tuna steak is just barely pink. The internal temperature of the tuna steak should read 90-95 degrees when done.

FAQS

  1. What is the best way to marinate tuna steaks for maximum flavor?

To achieve maximum flavor, combine all marinade ingredients—extra virgin olive oil, honey, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, chopped parsley, salt, cracked black pepper, cumin, smoked paprika, and lemon juice—in a bowl and whisk vigorously. Then, place the tuna steaks in a Ziploc bag or bowl, pour in the marinade, toss to coat, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. Can I use a different type of fish instead of tuna for this marinade?

Yes, you can use this garlic herb marinade with other types of fish such as salmon, swordfish, or mahi-mahi. Just keep in mind that cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of the fish, so adjust accordingly.

  3. How should I store leftover marinated tuna steaks?

If you have leftover marinated tuna steaks, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. If you have already cooked the tuna, it can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days. Always ensure the tuna is cooled before sealing it in the container.

  4. What side dishes pair well with grilled tuna steaks marinated in garlic and herbs?

Grilled tuna steaks marinated in garlic and herbs pair wonderfully with a variety of side dishes. Consider serving them with a fresh salad, grilled vegetables, or a light quinoa dish. For a more substantial meal, you could also serve them with rice or a creamy risotto.

  5. What are some good substitutions for honey in the tuna steak marinade?

If you're looking for a substitute for honey in the marinade, you can use maple syrup, agave nectar, or brown sugar. Each will add a different flavor profile, but they will still provide the sweetness needed to balance the savory ingredients.
