How to make Instant Rice Dhokla

  1. Step 1

Wash one cup of raw rice and soak it for one to two hours.

  2. Step 2

Grind the soaked rice with curd, ginger, green chili, and salt to make a smooth batter.

  3. Step 3

Transfer the batter to a bowl and add water to adjust the consistency as needed. Mix well.

  4. Step 4

In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, and asafoetida. Sauté until aromatic.

  5. Step 5

Add the sautéed mixture to the batter and mix thoroughly.

  6. Step 6

Add semolina (suji) to the batter and mix well. Let it rest for a few minutes.

  7. Step 7

Just before steaming, add a sachet of Eno to the batter and mix gently.

  8. Step 8

Pour the batter into a greased steaming tray and steam for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.

  9. Step 9

Let it cool slightly before cutting into pieces and serving.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Ensure the batter consistency is not too thick or too runny for the best results.

  2. Add Eno just before steaming to ensure the dhokla rises properly.

  3. You can garnish the dhokla with fresh coriander leaves or grated coconut for added flavor.

FAQS

  1. Can I use leftover rice instead of soaked rice?

No, this recipe specifically requires soaked raw rice for the right texture and flavor.

  2. Can I use baking powder instead of Eno?

Eno works best for this recipe as it helps the dhokla rise quickly. Baking powder may not give the same results.

  3. How do I know the dhokla is cooked?

Insert a toothpick into the center of the dhokla. If it comes out clean, the dhokla is cooked.

  4. Can I make this recipe without semolina?

Semolina helps give the dhokla a nice texture, but you can try substituting it with rice flour if needed.

  5. Can I store the dhokla for later?

Yes, you can store the dhokla in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat before serving.
