Ingredients

Spaghetti

  • 12oz
    spaghetti
  • 1tbsp
    salt

Sauce

  • 2tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1piece
    onion, chopped
  • 2clove
    garlic, minced
  • 28oz
    crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 2tbsp
    tomato paste (optional)
  • 1tsp
    sugar
  • 1tsp
    oregano or Italian seasoning
  • 1tsp
    salt
  • 1/2tsp
    black pepper

How to make Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce

Cook the Spaghetti

  1. Boil a pot of salted water.

  2. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente.

  3. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Sauce

  1. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.

  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce, tomato paste if using, and sugar. Mix well.

  5. Add oregano or Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper.

  6. Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes to thicken and develop flavors.

Combine

  1. Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.

  2. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, grated Parmesan, or red chili flakes if desired.
