This Asian comfort food is insanely fast to make, with a Korean/Japanese twist. There isn't much clean up required, and many of the ingredients will last for a long time or can be bought in bulk.

Ingredients
- Instant Rice
- Butter
- Egg
- Sesame Oil
- Furikake (Nori Komi preferred)
- Gochujang Kick Powder (O'food preferred)
- Soy sauce
- Salt
- Pepper
- Kimchi (optional)
How to make Furikake Egg on Rice
Put the instant rice in the microwave for however long the packet recommends.
Butter the frying pan and crack an egg close to it (so the yolk doesn't break) over medium heat. Flip the egg after about 2 minutes on the first side, and check to see if the yolk is still slightly squishy/over medium or over easy on the second side after 1 minute.
Meanwhile, move the instant rice to a slightly larger dish, and fluff and spread the rice out a bit. Put many small slivers of butter on the cooked rice.
Drizzle a generous amount of sesame oil over the rice.
Cover the rice with a moderate amount of Nori Komi furikake.
Sprinkle a generous amount of O'food Gochujang Kick powder over the rice. You may have to invert the bottle repeatedly to get it to come out instead of just shaking it.
Put the egg on the rice. It should be off the heat if it finishes cooking before the rice is seasoned.
Drizzle a small amount of soy sauce on the egg. Let it run off the sides into the rice, but don't try to cover the rice with more soy sauce, or the whole thing will be too salty.
Sprinkle some salt and pepper on the egg.
Tips & Tricks
The beauty of this dish is in its simplicity, so don't serve it with steamed veggies and whatnot. It does, however, go well with a little kimchi, or you can add an extra egg.
Not all furikakes are made equal, and if the dish isn't tasting right, it might be because of the furikake. You can find the brands I use at HMart or just order them online on Amazon. Link to the furikake here.
Link to the Gochujang powder here. This is very different from traditional gochujang paste, which would probably go alright with the dish, but isn't a similar replacement.
I'm not as particular about the brand of instant rice, as long as it's microwaveable white rice. You could make it in a rice cooker too if you're serving more than 6 people, but the portion of instant rice is perfect and convenient so I usually opt for that.
