How to make Babka Cheese Bread

Prepare the Dough

  1. Step 1

    In a large bowl, mix the flour, melted butter, and egg.

  2. Step 2

    Add the warm milk and warm water and mix until a dough forms.

  3. Step 3

    If you're using an electric mixer, knead for about 5-6 minutes. Otherwise, knead with your hand for 6-8 minutes until a smooth ball form.

    Cover and set aside.

Prepare the Sauce

    Combine and simmer all the sauce ingredients in a pan over medium-low heat for 5 minutes. Set it aside to cool down.

Baking the Dough

    Preheat the oven to 356°F (180°C).

    Place the dough onto a clean, lightly floured surface.

    Roll the dough into a 1 cm thick circular shape.

  4. Step 4

    Brush the sauce onto the dough. Be very generous.

  5. Step 5

    Sprinkle the dough with a generous amount of cheese.

  6. Step 6

    Roll the dough into a log-like shape. Pinch the overlapping side to seal the dough.

  7. Step 7

    Then cut the dough in half. Fold the dough onto each other using a braiding technique.

    Now fold the braid in a circular form

  9. Step 9

    Place it into a greased oven tray and bake for 28-30 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 degrees.
