When you are on your weightloss target but craving for sambar this recipe is perfect

Ingredients

4 Servings
(1 serving = 1 big bowl )

For base

  • 1/2cup
    toor daal
  • 1/4
    lauki
  • 1/4
    brinjal
  • 1/4
    carrot
  • 1
    onion
  • 2
    tomatoes
  • 8
    curry leaves
  • pinch
    of hing
  • 1tsp
    Jhakiyan or mustard seeds
  • salt as per taste
  • 1tsp
    chilli powder
  • 2
    dry red chillies
  • 1tsp
    turmeric powder
  • 2tbsp
    sambar powder
  • 1/2tsp
    Oil
  • water as required
  • 2tbsp
    tamarind

Method

Let’s prepare

  1. Add daal , lauki , brinjal and carrot into a pressure cooker

  2. Add water and one tomato in the cooker

  3. Add salt, turmeric powder and hing and give 5-6 whistles

  4. Once steam is out mash it with a spatula

  5. Now take a pan and add oil

  6. Add jakhiya,curry leaves and dry red chillies

  7. Add onion and tomato

  8. Add salt, chilli powder , turmeric powder and sambar masala

  9. Sauté till it completely absorbed, add water if required

  10. Add tamarind water into the mixture

  11. Give it a boil

  12. Add boiled tamarind water into the daal mixture in the cooker

  13. Give it a good mix and let it boil for 2-3 minutes

  14. Serve hot with idli or dosa

Tips & Tricks

  1. Soak tamarind into hot water in advance

  2. use water if masala sticks to the pan
