Curry leaves are an essential ingredient in many cuisines, especially in South Indian cooking, where they are known for their aromatic and flavorful addition to dishes. Recently, I got curry leaves in abundance and wanted to store them for later use while ensuring they remain fresh. There are various methods...

1 Servings
(1 serving = 1 ice cube)
  • 1bundle
    fresh curry leaves
  • 1cup
    water
  • Ice cube Tray
  • Air tight container/Freezer Bags

Method

  1. Choose fresh, green curry leaves without any yellowing or spots.

  7. Transfer the curry leaf ice cubes to an airtight container or a freezer bag. Place the container or bag back into the freezer for long-term storage.

  8. When you need curry leaves for a recipe, take out the required number of ice cubes. Let the ice cubes melt at room temperature. The leaves will regain their freshness as the ice melts.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Freeze the curry leaves in small batches if you have a large quantity. This ensures even freezing and better preservation.

  2. Freezing curry leaves in water helps retain their color and aroma.

  3. Properly stored, frozen curry leaves can last for several months, ensuring you always have fresh leaves available.
