How to make Coconut Paag

Preparation

  1. Step 1

Cut the dried coconut into small pieces and set aside.

  2. Step 2

Chop the almonds and cashew nuts into small pieces.

  3. Step 3

Heat ghee in a pan and fry the gond until it puffs up. Remove and set aside.

  4. Step 4

In the same pan, roast the makhana until crispy. Remove and set aside.

  5. Step 5

Roast the chopped almonds and cashew nuts in the pan until golden brown. Remove and set aside.

Making the Sugar Syrup

  1. Step 1

In a separate pan, add sugar and water. Heat until the sugar dissolves completely and forms a syrup of one-string consistency.

Combining Ingredients

  1. Step 1

Add the milk powder and cardamom powder to the sugar syrup and mix well.

  2. Step 2

Add the roasted gond, makhana, almonds, cashew nuts, raisins, and dried coconut pieces to the syrup. Mix thoroughly to combine all the ingredients.

  3. Step 3

Cook the mixture on low heat until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan.

Final Steps

  1. Step 1

Grease a tray or plate with ghee and pour the mixture onto it. Spread evenly and let it cool.

  2. Step 2

Once cooled, cut into desired shapes and serve.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Ensure the sugar syrup reaches one-string consistency for the perfect texture.

  2. Roast the nuts and makhana well to enhance their flavor.

  3. Use fresh and good-quality dry coconut for the best taste.

FAQS

  1. Can I use fresh coconut instead of dry coconut?

Dry coconut is recommended for this recipe as it provides a distinct texture and flavor. Fresh coconut may alter the consistency of the paag.

  2. What is gond, and where can I find it?

Gond is edible gum commonly used in Indian sweets. You can find it at Indian grocery stores or online.

  3. Can I skip milk powder?

Milk powder adds richness to the paag, but you can skip it or replace it with condensed milk for a similar effect.

  4. How do I store Coconut Paag?

Store the paag in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, refrigerate it.

  5. Can I add other nuts or seeds?

Yes, you can customize the recipe by adding other nuts or seeds like pistachios or sunflower seeds.
