Ukdiche Modak is a traditional Indian sweet dumpling made with a rice flour dough shell filled with a sweet mixture of grated coconut and jaggery. It’s a popular treat during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, often steamed and offered to Lord Ganesha.

How to make Ganpati Special Ukdiche Modak
Prepare the filling

In a pan, mix grated coconut and jaggery. Cook on medium heat until the jaggery melts and combines with the coconut.

Add cardamom powder and poppy seeds, and mix well. Let the filling cool completely.
Prepare the dough

Cover and let it cook for a minute. Remove from heat and knead into a smooth dough while it is still warm.
Shape and steam the modaks

Take a small portion of the dough and shape it into a cup using your fingers.
- Step 2
Fill the cup with the prepared coconut-jaggery mixture and seal the edges to form a modak shape.
- Step 3
Place the modaks in a steamer and steam for 10-12 minutes until cooked.
- Step 4
You can add few strands of saffron on each modak before steaming.
