Turkish Sesame Halwa (Tahin Helvası)

Ingredients
- 1cuptahini
- 1cupgranulated sugar
- 1/2cupwater
- 1/2cupchopped nuts
- 1pinchsalt
- 1tspvanilla extract
How to make Turkish Sesame Halwa (Tahin Helvası)
Prepare the Syrup
In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar completely dissolves. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Combine Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine tahini and salt. Gradually add the warm syrup to the tahini while stirring continuously to create a smooth mixture.
Add Flavor
If using, add vanilla extract and mix well. Fold in the chopped nuts if desired.
Set the Halwa
Pour the mixture into a greased dish or a loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Allow it to cool at room temperature for several hours, or until it sets completely.
Slice and Serve
Once set, cut into pieces and serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.
Tips & Tricks
For a richer flavor, toast the nuts before adding them to the mixture.
Ensure the syrup is warm but not hot when mixing with tahini to avoid separation.
