Haldi, also known as turmeric, is a vibrant golden-yellow spice derived from the rhizomes of the Curcuma longa plant. This ancient spice boasts a warm, earthy, and slightly bitter flavor with a peppery aroma. In its raw form, haldi resembles ginger but is much more intensely colored. Ground turmeric powder is commonly used in cooking, offering a distinctive color and flavor. It's widely recognized for its potential health benefits and is a staple in many cuisines.

Store haldi (turmeric) powder in an airtight container in a cool, dark, and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Properly stored turmeric powder can maintain its flavor and potency for up to two to three years. Fresh turmeric root should be refrigerated in a plastic bag or airtight container and used within two to three weeks. You can also freeze fresh turmeric root for longer storage; simply wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or place it in a freezer bag.
