Edo Recipes

Edo cuisine from Benin City and the mid-western region of Nigeria carries the legacy of the historic Kingdom of Benin, known for its rich and peppery dishes. Black soup (omoebe), owo soup (palm oil-based), and pounded yam are cornerstones of the Edo table. The cuisine is distinctively spicy, making liberal use of uziza seeds, dried pepper, and aromatic leaves. Edo people are also known for their unique preparations of plantain, such as boli (roasted plantain), and their elaborate ceremonial feasts.
