How to make Garlic Naan Bread

Prepare the Dough

  1. Step 1

Sift the flour and gently fold in the yogurt with a spatula until the mixture forms a dough.

  2. Step 2

On a floured surface, knead the dough by hand for 5-8 minutes. If too sticky, add more flour, a little at a time, while kneading. Cover and set aside until you’re ready to use your dough.

Cook the Naan

  1. Step 1

Divide the dough into 10-12 equal balls. On a floured surface, roll each ball into 3mm thick circles.

  2. Step 2

Heat a pan. Carefully lay the naan dough into the pan and fry until slightly puffed with a light char, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  3. Step 3

Combine the crushed garlic with the melted butter and parsley. Brush the naan bread on both sides as they are removed from the pan.

FAQS

  1. Can I use whole wheat flour instead of self-raising flour?

Yes, but the texture may be denser. You may need to add baking powder to help it rise.

  2. Can I make the dough ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the dough a few hours in advance and keep it covered until ready to use.

  3. How do I store leftover naan?

Store leftover naan in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.

  4. Can I use dried parsley instead of fresh?

Yes, but fresh parsley provides a better flavor. Use about half the amount if using dried parsley.

  5. What can I serve with garlic naan?

Garlic naan pairs well with curries, soups, or as a base for wraps and sandwiches.
