How to make Raw Banana - Yam Erissery / Chena - Kaya Erissery

  1. Step 1

    To a pressure cooker, add Toor dal, raw banana pieces, yam pieces, and turmeric powder.

    Add enough water for cooking.

    Cook until it's completely cooked.

    When the pressure is completely released, open the lid.

    Add chilli powder, pepper powder, and salt.

    Add 1/2 cup grated coconut along with cumin seeds and shallots to a mixer jar. Coarsely grind without adding water.

    Add this to the mashed banana and yam mix and mix well.

    Turn on the flame. When it starts bubbling, turn off the flame and keep aside.

    In another pan, heat oil. When the oil becomes hot, add mustard seeds and dry chilli.

    Add the remaining 1/2 cup grated coconut.

    Fry until the coconut becomes golden brown, then add curry leaves and mix.

    Turn off the flame.

    Add this fried coconut to the already prepared mashed banana-yam mix and mix well.
