A refreshing Nigerian beverage made from zobo leaves, pineapple, cucumber, dates, ginger, and cloves.

    zobo leaves

    dates (debino)

How to make Zobo Drink (Another Method)

  1. Put your zobo leaves in water and rinse off immediately.

  2. Wash your pineapple thoroughly, peel the back, and cut the flesh into tiny pieces. Do the same to the cucumber.

  3. Wash your ginger very well and crush loosely with the cloves. Soak your dates to soften. You can do this overnight.

  4. In a pot, put the zobo leaves, add 5 liters of water, and put on fire. Add the crushed ginger, cloves, and the fruit peels. Allow to cook for about 35-40 minutes then remove from heat and sieve. You can add a little more water to what you sieved out and recook to bring out all the juice from the zobo leaves. Allow to cool.

  5. While it cools, blend the pineapple, cucumber, and softened dates then sieve out the juice and pour into your cool zobo.

  6. Refrigerate and serve chilled.

Tips & Tricks

  1. You can soak the dates overnight to soften them more effectively.

  2. Adding more water to the sieved zobo leaves and recooking can help extract more juice.
