Black Tea
Black tea, a beloved beverage enjoyed worldwide, offers more than just a caffeine boost. Derived from the Camellia sinensis plant, the same source as green, white, and oolong teas, black tea undergoes a full oxidation process, resulting in its distinctive dark color and robust flavor. This oxidation process also contributes to the unique health benefits and chemical composition of black tea.
One of the most celebrated aspects of black tea is its high antioxidant content. Rich in polyphenols, including theaflavins and thearubigins, black tea helps combat free radicals in the body, protecting cells from damage and potentially reducing the risk of chronic diseases. These antioxidants are associated with improved heart health, potentially lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Studies have even explored black tea's role in cancer prevention, although more research is needed. The catechins found in tea, although less prevalent than in green tea, also contribute to its antioxidant power.
