Navajo Recipes

Navajo (Diné) cuisine reflects a semi-arid pastoral and agricultural tradition centered in the Four Corners region. Sheep, introduced by the Spanish, became a cornerstone alongside traditional corn, beans, and squash. Mutton stew with vegetables, kneel-down bread (fresh corn wrapped in husks), and frybread—though born of hardship during the Long Walk—are iconic foods. Blue corn mush, piñon nuts, and roasted green chiles round out Navajo culinary traditions.
