Mineiro cuisine hails from Minas Gerais, Brazil's mountainous interior state known for hearty, rustic cooking rooted in the gold-mining era. Tutu de feijão (bean paste with cassava flour), feijão tropeiro (beans with farofa, sausage, and eggs), and frango com quiabo (chicken with okra) are signature dishes. Pão de queijo (cheese bread) and doce de leite originated here. Minas is also Brazil's premier cheese-producing region, famous for its artisanal queijo minas.
