Burgher Recipes

Burgher cuisine is the unique culinary tradition of Sri Lanka's Burgher community, descendants of Portuguese and Dutch colonists who intermarried with local Sri Lankans. The cuisine represents a distinctive Eurasian fusion, blending European cooking techniques and dishes with Sri Lankan spices and ingredients. Signature dishes include lamprais (rice and accompaniments baked in banana leaf), breudher cake, love cake, and frikkadels meatballs. This cuisine preserves a fascinating colonial culinary heritage found nowhere else in the world.
