Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 5lb
    whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1tsp
    turmeric powder or 1 inch chopped turmeric root
  • 1tbsp
    red Kashmiri chili powder
  • 4tbsp
    garam masala
  • 1tbsp

  • 4tbsp

  • 1piece
    large onion, thinly sliced
  • 6piece
    large tomatoes, chopped

To Braise the Chicken

  • 1tbsp
    olive oil

    garam masala
  • 1tsp
    Kashmiri chili powder

For the Rice

  • 5cups
    basmati rice, rinsed, soaked for 30 minutes, and drained
  • 1tsp
    turmeric powder
  • 1/2tsp
    ground saffron
  • 1tbsp
    sea salt

How to make Easy Chicken Biryani

Sauté the Onions and Veggies to make the masala.

  1. On medium heat add 2 tbsp oil to the pot.

Braise and Cook the Chicken

  1. In medium heat, add 1 tbsp oil in the pot. Add 2 tbsp garam masala, crushed cloves, green cardamoms, star anise, and black cardamoms. Roast for 1 minute.

  2. Add the chicken pieces and braise each side for 1 minute on medium heat.

  3. Combine the chicken and the veggie masala, add sea salt and cook for 20 minutes or until fully cooked. ( till it reaches 165 F)

Toast the Rice

  1. In a separate pot, on low-medium heat 1 tbsp oil.

  2. Add the drained rice and toast it for 1-2 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning.

Combine Toasted Rice with Chicken Gravy & Cook

  1. Add the toasted rice to the chicken gravy in the main pot.

  2. Pour in 6 cups of water, add salt and stir gently.

Final Assembly

  1. Add the chicken pieces back into the pot.
