How to make Onion Jam

  1. Step 1

Peel and finely slice the onions into thin julienne strips.

  2. Step 2

In a saucepan, melt the butter. Once melted, add the sliced onions and salt. Sauté over low heat until the onions begin to turn golden.

  3. Step 3

When the onions are soft and lightly golden, add the sugar. Let it cook over very low heat, allowing the mixture to reduce.

  4. Step 4

Once the sugar and onions have combined and thickened, add the honey. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the onion jam cool to room temperature.

  6. Step 6

While the onion jam cools, sterilize the glass jar where it will be stored. Wash the jar thoroughly, place a cloth at the bottom of a pot, set the jar on top, and fill the pot with water until it reaches just below the jar’s rim. Boil the jar for 30 minutes.

  7. Step 7

Once sterilized, transfer the onion jam into the jar and store it in the refrigerator.
