How to make Cod Omelette

  1. Step 1

Desalinate the cod a day before by placing it in water and changing the water about four or five times at intervals of 3 hours.

  2. Step 2

Shred the desalinated cod and place it in a skillet with a little olive oil.

  3. Step 3

Add the shredded cod, finely chopped red and green bell peppers, and onion to the skillet. Cook for a couple of minutes, then remove from heat.

  4. Step 4

Beat the eggs and add the cooked cod, onion, and bell peppers (well-drained) to the beaten eggs.

  5. Step 5

Mix all the ingredients together. Heat a skillet with a few drops of olive oil and pour in the mixture.

  6. Step 6

Cook over low heat for two minutes, then flip the omelette and cook for another two minutes, just until the eggs are set. Be careful not to overcook, as the dish should remain moist and tender.

FAQS

  1. How do I desalinate the cod?

Place the cod in water and change the water about four or five times at intervals of 3 hours. This process should be done a day before preparing the omelette.

  2. Can I use fresh cod instead of desalinated cod?

Desalinated cod is traditional for this recipe, as it provides the necessary seasoning. Fresh cod may require additional seasoning adjustments.

  3. How do I flip the omelette without breaking it?

Use a large plate or flat lid to cover the skillet, then carefully flip the skillet to transfer the omelette onto the plate. Slide it back into the skillet to cook the other side.

  4. Can I add other vegetables to the omelette?

Yes, you can experiment with other vegetables like zucchini or spinach, but keep in mind that the traditional recipe uses bell peppers and onion.

  5. How do I know when the omelette is cooked perfectly?

The omelette should be set but still moist and tender. Avoid overcooking as it can become dry.
