How to make Braided Chícharo

  1. Step 1

Lay the flank steak flat on a countertop, remove any excess fat, and cut it into strips approximately 10 centimeters wide by 20 centimeters long.

  2. Step 2

Cut each wide strip into three smaller strips, leaving the top of each wide strip connected.

  3. Step 3

Braid the strips and tie the bottom end with a thread.

  4. Step 4

Place the braided flank steak into a large pot with water and bay leaves, and cook for 1.5 hours.

  5. Step 5

Once the meat is tender, remove the pot from the heat and let the meat cool in the water.

  6. Step 6

Take the meat out of the water and place the braids on a baking sheet that has been lightly greased with oil. Season with salt and pepper.

  7. Step 7

Cook in a preheated oven at 220°C (425°F) until golden on both sides. Remove from the oven and cut off the threads.
