How to make Arabic Bread

  1. Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and allow it to sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. Step 2

Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Stir until the dough begins to come together.

  3. Step 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. Step 5

Preheat your oven to 428°F (220°C) and place a baking stone or baking sheet inside to heat.

  6. Step 6

Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.

  7. Step 7

Roll out each ball into a circle, about 1/4 inch thick.

  8. Step 8

Place on the preheated baking surface and bake for 6-10 minutes until the pitas are puffed and light golden brown.

  9. Step 9

Remove from the oven and cover with a clean towel to keep them soft.
