Classic Shepherd's Pie with Rich Ground Meat and Creamy Mash

Ingredients
- 450gground beef or lamb
- 1pieceonion, chopped
- 2clovegarlic, minced
- 2cupsmixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
- 2tbsptomato paste
- 1tspWorcestershire sauce
- 1tspdried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4cupsmashed potatoes (prepared with butter and cream)
- 1cupshredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
How to make Classic Shepherd's Pie with Rich Ground Meat and Creamy Mash
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large pan, brown the ground meat over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
Add the onion and garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent.
Stir in the mixed vegetables, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until heated through.
Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread evenly.
Top with the creamy mashed potatoes, spreading them to cover the filling completely. If desired, sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
Let it cool slightly before serving, garnished with fresh parsley.
Tips & Tricks
For a smoother mashed potato topping, use a potato ricer or food mill.
You can prepare the meat mixture a day ahead and refrigerate it. Just add the mashed potatoes and bake when ready to serve.
