For Hunar Baig, better known online as Ace of Spoons, food is never just food. It’s memory, it’s culture, it’s identity. It is a plate filled with history, flavored with tradition, and shared with the people you love most.
Growing up in a South Asian family where every gathering revolved around food, Hunar’s passion for the kitchen began early. At 12, she was already trying her hand at chicken curry, adding a little too much turmeric. By 13 or 14, she was baking from scratch, learning through blogs, YouTube, and plenty of trial and error. While the first vanilla sponge came out partly burnt, Hunar had discovered something more important: a deep joy in the process of making.

“I was the only baker in my family,” Hunar recalls, “so I became the designated one for every occasion.” That mix of responsibility and creativity would quietly prepare her for what was to come.
Over time, Hunar’s cooking shifted from experiments for families to carefully tested recipes shared with the world. The name Ace of Spoons became the banner for a food blog that blends precision, creativity, and story.
But food for Hunar has never been just about technique. “In our culture, food is more than nutrition. It’s the memories and stories that travel with it.” That philosophy infuses everything she shares, from baking tutorials to South Asian curries to family heirloom dishes.
One such recipe, her sentimental favorite, is saag goasht with biryani, a unique yellow biryani with lamb and milk that has been passed down through generations from Lahore. Documenting this dish with accuracy and care has become both a personal project and a tribute to her roots.
Today Hunar is based in Manchester, working full-time as a food content creator. What began as a passion project has now become a career since 2023. She creates recipes, shoots photography and videography, and collaborates with brands across TikTok, Instagram, and beyond.
The transition hasn’t always been easy.

“The financial instability can be tough compared to a 9-to-5 job. But this really is my dream job. I love the creative freedom. I get to cook, bake, shoot, write, and connect with people all at once.”
Her recent travels, from Lisbon to local markets in the UK, always include exploring food cultures firsthand. “When I travel, I want the traditional dishes, the local flavors,” they say. “That’s what excites me.”
For those exploring her blog, Hunar has a few must-tries:
⦁ Easy Caramel – perfect for anyone intimidated by the process.
⦁ Tiramisu Cheesecake – impressive enough for a dinner party, but surprisingly simple.
⦁ Black Pepper Chicken Curry – flavorful without being overwhelming. Each recipe is tested, photographed, and shared with the kind of precision Hunar once wished she had found in her own early baking attempts. And the reward? Seeing followers recreate them and share their photos.
“That feedback, those pictures, it makes all the hard work worth it.”
For those who dream of doing what they’ve done, Hunar’s message is simple:

“Just start. Your first attempts won’t be your best, but improvement comes with time. Cook and bake the things you enjoy, because that passion will carry you through. And don’t rush, savor the process in the kitchen.”
It’s advice born from experience. From that turmeric-heavy curry to a career in food media, Hunar’s path proves that the mix of persistence, curiosity, and love for flavor can transform a hobby into something extraordinary.
Hunar’s ambitions stretch far beyond her current blog. She hopes to release a baking book first as she continues to grow her audience, while a desi cookbook is definitely something she’d love to do. Another focus is stepping further into the role of creative, working on brand shoots and developing content for brands alongside their own recipe storytelling.
She is mindful of striking a balance between what the audience wants and what she loves creating. “I don’t want to just chase algorithms,” Hunar reflects. “I want to make content that matters.”
