A delicious lentil dumpling dish soaked in yogurt, perfect for a refreshing snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

4 Servings
(1 serving = 1 bowl)
  • 1cup
    white lentil
  • 1/2cup
    yellow lentil
  • 1piece
    onion, chopped
  • 4piece
    green chili
  • 1 1/2tsp
    salt
  • 1/2tsp
    cumin powder
  • 1pinch
    baking soda
  • 1/2kg
    yogurt
  • sugar to taste
  • 1/2cup
    milk
  • chat masala

Method

  1. Soak white lentils and yellow lentils in water for 4 to 5 hours.

  2. Strain water from the lentils.

  3. Add chopped onion, green chili, garlic paste, cumin powder, and salt.

  4. Add the mixture to a grinder, add 1 cup of water, and grind it to a smooth batter.

  5. Pour the batter into a bowl.

  6. Heat oil in a wok. With the help of a spoon, add the mixture into the oil to form dumplings of the desired size. Deep fry until golden brown.

  7. Take a bowl of water and add all the dumplings. Soak them for 10 minutes.

  8. In a separate bowl, add yogurt, sugar, and milk. Whisk well until smooth.

  9. Take each dumpling in hand, press to remove excess water, and put them in the yogurt mixture.

  10. Repeat the same for all dumplings.

  11. Mix with a spoon and sprinkle chat masala generously.

  12. Daal Dahi Bhalay is ready to eat.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Ensure the batter is smooth for better texture.

  2. Soaking the dumplings in water helps them absorb the yogurt mixture better.
